Tragedy in Avdiivka
The situation in Avdiivka is kind of like watching a rerun of an old movie you have seen a million times. You know all of the actors, the plot of the movie, who the Villain is, who the sucker is, and who will come out on top in the end.
First of all, I am just some guy sitting in my Garage, in the middle of Florida. I should have no idea what Ukraine’s military is planning to do. But they come out and tell the World exactly what the plan is, every single time! Hold Avdiivka at all costs says Zelensky! The problem is, Avdiivka is already lost. Russia is fighting this battle just like they did in Bakmut. They surround the City, leaving a 400 meter gap which temps Ukraine to feed more resources into the “meat grinder.” Zelensky just fired his top General because he remembers the carnage that took place in Bakmut. But Zelensky does not care. He must hold on to this City at all cost at least through March. Why? You guessed it. The 61 Billion Dollars for Ukraine that is held up in the House of Representatives. If Zelensky loses Avdiivka, especially before the House votes, there is little chance the Bill will pass.
Russia is loving this. Their sole mission right now is to continue grinding down the Ukrainian Military. The kill ratio in Avdiivka is 20 to 1 favoring the Russians. So, they surround the City, except for an open gap just big enough to temp the Ukrainians. Russia even lets some get through, giving their brotherly enemies a false hope.
Avdiivka is a fortress of a City. Russia did have a rough time cracking this nut for sure. How they did it is nothing less than spectacular.
During the Putin interview, remember the history lesson Putin gave in the beginning? Americans do not have the time or patience for history any more. A matter of fact, the more of our history our Government can erase from our consciousness the better. According to our Government any way.
Russians do not forget their history. A matter of fact, many years ago the Russian Army was fighting right there, around the same place. Whomever they were fighting had an impregnable defense set up in a city with high ground and high walls. One day, a couple miles from the City, the Russians stumbled upon an old drainage pipe, that led right under the walls of the City, and right into the center of Town!
The Russians waited until it was in the middle of the night. Their enemy was passed out inside their tents and houses. all snuggled in bed with a fire going. The guards were freezing, and sipped on Russian Vodka trying to stay warm. Nobody would attack on such a night! They thought.
The Russians had spent days cleaning out the large pipe. They would fire barrages of artillary shells so their enemy would not hear them working below on the pipe.
Hundreds of Russians entered the pipe. They quietly crept over two miles in complete darkness. When they reached the end of the pipe they were in the middle of the city they had such a hard time breaking. They broke it now! First the Russians split the City in two. Their enemy was so confused they had no idea what had hit them Many soldiers just stayed in bed, waiting for the nightmare to end. It never did. The Russians routed the occupants of the City and it was liberated back to Russia once again.
